This new 44,600 sq.ft. ice arena replaced the former Jackson Arena in the Town of Stowe. The style of the arena is reminiscent of Alpine lodges, barns, or outbuildings, and the design provides detail and human scale to the large building mass through eave bracket details, a cedar wood-lined entryway, and three steel and wood canopies that announce the festive nature of the arena. The interior program includes an entry lobby designed for views into the arena, a pro shop, and community meeting room. The landscape design conceals the large mass of the rink into the wooded hillside of the site by using native hard and softwood trees and understory plantings. The mechanical system is a state-of-the-art energy efficient system.
