Wins AIAVT Design Award

DECEMBER 10, 2009 | Burlington, Vermont

TruexCullins Architecture and Interior Design received an "Excellence in Architecture" award from the American Institute of Architects / Vermont Chapter.

The project consists of a two unit home for a multigenerational family. The units are connected via a common entry and south facing glass hallway, which also serves as a collector of solar energy.  Other energy related features include a super insulated building envelope, passive solar heat, geothermal heat, and the harvesting of sugar maple and red oak lumber from the site for the home's flooring and millwork.

The Jury, from the AIA New York Chapter (Westchester/Mid-Hudson), commended this “refined family retreat for its craftsmanship, use of materials and careful siting."  Also noting, “The natural lighting abounds in the home and the views and connection to the exterior were appreciated.”

The design team included: Architects: Rolf Kielman, AIA, Lee Grutchfield, AIA & Stuart Hamilton; Interior Designers: Kim Deetjen, ASID, & Rebekah Bose; Structural Engineer: Artisan Engineering; Mechanical & Electrical Engineers: LN Consulting; Landscape Architect: H. Keith Wagner Partnership; General Contractor: Roundtree Construction
