TRUEXCULLINS DESIGNS BEN & JERRY'S BED-IN TO RECOGNIZE TODAY'S PEACE MOVEMENT LEADERS MAY 27, 2008 | Burlington, Vermont
Ben & Jerry’s, in a joint effort with the Lennon Estate, has created a new flavor, Imagine Whirled Peace, to raise global awareness of the UN day of global ceasefire and non-violence on September 21st annually. To promote the peace campaign, Ben & Jerry’s re-created the historic bed-in of John Lennon and Yoko Ono with a glass truck displaying a bed, complete with pillows, a guitar silk screened comforter, curtains, chandelier and a shag rug. The truck drove around Manhattan on Tuesday May 27th, stopping at the Ben & Jerry’s Times Square Scoop Shop for a press event with award-winning actress Maggie Gyllenhaal, co-founder Jerry Greenfield and Peace One Day Founder Jeremy Gilley. The Interiors studio at TruexCullins collaborated on the design of the truck with the creative team at Ben & Jerry’s. The two firms have a long history of working together, TruexCullins designed the Ben & Jerry’s corporate offices in 1996 in South Burlington and then renovated the same space in 2006. TruexCullins was thrilled to have the opportunity to participate in such a unique and exciting event. Interior designers Christine Burdick and Kim Deetjen of TruexCullins worked closely with the Ben & Jerry’s team to select colors, materials, lighting and window treatments to re-create the Lennon-Ono bed-in while also reflecting the Ben & Jerry’s brand. Challenges included creating a “stage” that worked from all angles, since there was no back to the set, and to ensure a successful press event, enough room was left around the bed for people to gather for interviews and photographs. Please see the Ben & Jerry’s press release for further details about the event and Ben & Jerry’s campaign for peace.
