Champlain College Wins
Architectural Excellence Award
MAY 17, 2005 | Burlington, Vermont
Champlain College received the Herztal Pasackow Award for significant contribution to the architectural quality of Burlington for the three new buildings developed through their “Power of Three- Giving Students Room to Grow” Campaign. Presented at the Burlington Business Association’s 27th Annual Dinner on May 12th, 2005, the award was accepted by Roger Perry, President of Champlain College and Tom Cullins, AIA, a senior partner at Truex Cullins & Partners Architects.
Designed by Truex Cullins & Partners Architects, the Student Life Complex, Main Street Suites Residence Hall and Conference Center, and the S. D. Ireland Family Center for Global Business and Technology all successfully integrate with and improve the college’s existing urban campus while remaining consistent with the surrounding historical residential neighborhood.
Exterior building massing and materials such as brick, slate and clapboard minimize the three building’s impact on their sites. In addition, by utilizing key sustainable design principles in all three buildings, Truex Cullins & Partners Architects was able to develop solutions that integrate and enhance Champlain College’s existing urban campus, and provide healthy and comfortable working, living and learning environments while diminishing resource use in both the construction and operation of the buildings.
