TRUEXCULLINS NAMES TWO NEW PARTNERS:
DEETJEN & MILLIKIN

Kim Deetjen, of South Burlington and Robert “Sparky” Millikin, of Hinesburg, are named as TruexCullins’ newest Partners, joining Principals Rolf Kielman, David Epstein and Richard Deane.
Kim Deetjen, ASID, leads the Interiors Studio at TruexCullins, a fully integrated design studio comprised of 11 interior designers. With over 20 years of experience in the field of commercial and residential interior design, Deetjen successfully applies her expertise to a variety of project types including corporate and academic with her focus and passion being hospitality and residential design. As the Director of Interiors at TruexCullins, Deetjen plays an integral role in all phases of the interior design process. The key to her success is her creative approach to each project coupled with superior management skills. She also enjoys successful working relationships with other architectural firms both in Vermont and New England.
An Associate of the firm and Director of Interiors since 1999, Deetjen had previously owned and served as the Principal of BY Design, an architectural and interior design firm in Burlington, before first joining forces with TruexCullins as the Director of Interiors from January 1992 to May 1993. She then moved to Boston and assisted premier residential interior designer, William Hodgins, as well as two other leading decorators in the Boston area. In 1999, she and her husband returned to Vermont to rejoin TruexCullins, establishing the now successful Interiors Studio.
Significant completed projects at TruexCullins include the Vermont National Country Club, the Villas at Trapp Family Lodge, the Spa at Topnotch Resort, and the Power of Three Projects at Champlain College. Interiors’ resort work has taken the studio far beyond Vermont, including The Castle Hill Inn & Resort in Newport, Rhode Island and the Teton Springs Resort Community in Victor, Idaho. Deetjen’s passion for residential design has resulted in lasting relationships with clients who return again and again, relying on her design talent for their custom homes, many of which have been published in Vermont Magazine, Ski Magazine, Good Housekeeping, Better Homes and Gardens and Timber Homes. In addition, several projects have also received the Vermont Chapter of the AIA (American Institute of Architects) Excellence in Architecture Awards including most recently, the Hoehl Welcome Center at Saint Michael’s College and the historic renovation of Debevoise Hall at Vermont Law School, a LEED Silver Certified project.
Deetjen received her Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Interior Design from Syracuse University. She earned her NCIDQ National Council for Interior Design Qualification Certification and is a member of the American Society of Interior Designers.
Robert “Sparky” Millikin, is the Director of Operations at TruexCullins and is responsible for all aspects of the firm’s administration, including finance, operations, project management and human resources. He has been an Associate since 2003. A Cum Laude graduate of Dartmouth College with a major in architecture, he received his MBA degree from the Yale School of Management. Prior to joining TruexCullins in 2001, he spent 13 years as a project manager for Bread Loaf Corporation in Middlebury, VT and has over 20 years of experience in the residential and commercial construction industry. His clients have included Burton Snowboards, Ben & Jerry’s, Vermont Teddy Bear, Saint Michael’s College and Vermont Law School. Millikin’s management expertise allows him to play a critical role in negotiating contracts, coordinating staffing needs and keeping up with industry trends. He is currently on the Board of the Burlington Business Association.
Both Deetjen and Millikin have played pivotal roles in the ongoing growth and success of TruexCullins and are key members of the firm’s leadership team.
